Mockingjay and Robin set themselves on the thick branch of an oak tree, looking down at the frozen lands.
"What are we looking for?" Robin asked, following his sisters gaze along the ground covered in snow, expecting to see something apart from snow.
"Food." Mockingjay replied, directing her attention to a dead adult elk. The male corpse was dead, a large hole of fresh meat in it's side but there was still plenty of flesh to stuff both Phoenix's.
"C'mon," She sung the word before swooping down happily onto the dead elk, beginning to pick at the stringy meat without waiting for her hazel brother to land aside her. After a few moments of hesitation, Robin silently flew down next to his sister and started feasting on the prey. It was like a goldmine for the young birds.
Mockingjay quickly gulped down chunks of the prey, knowing dead animals like this didn't sit unaccompanied. She almost began to enjoy the meal before the ground beneath them shook and forced them to lay eyes on what approached them, a Tyrannosaurus.
"Robin, up there!" She yelled, but her brother only looked at the dinosaur angrily,
"We need this food, Jay! We haven't eaten for days!" He screeched back desperately, determination in his tone as the male watched the monster stepping towards him on it's meal with eyes of fury.
"It's not worth it!" The Silver Phoenix called back, but her brother had already taken flight and reached his talons forward for the monsters throat.
How horribly wrong it went.
The tyrannosaurus had opened it's deadly jaws wide before Robin had even got off the ground and perched it's head forward with a roar before clamping Mockingjay's brother in it's grasp. She screeched in sadness as her brother's piercing scream taunted her weakness, watching as her beloved partner in survival's blood dripped from the monsters jaws. Within seconds he was dead.
Mockingjay cried her brothers name, looking at his flimsy body drop to the ground as the monster loosened it's grip. The tyrannosaurus huffed fiercely before stepping forward to resume eating the elk. She took flight instantly after seeing the monsters carelessness towards her brothers death. Mockingjay rose above the tree tops, flapping with sadness and anger until her wings ached and she landed on a pine tree, deciding she'd stay here until she could muster the heart to move elsewhere.
After a few short seconds the silver Phoenix fell into a deep sleep, face buried in her wing.
Since then Mockingjay has been a lone survivor since she saw her brother foolishly take his own life in an attempt to keep what they had found. She refuses to let anyone else call her Jay since it was Robin who gave her than nickname, and she is uncertain of getting close to anyone.
"I wasn't always alone, my brother used to be with me... but he's gone now..."
