The young cub's eyes peeled open to the world around them; a world that had been silent for as long as they could remember, which wasn't that long. A silhouette stood in front of them, shielding them from a flickering orange light. It was nearly ten times their size, and a tangle of antlers sprouted from their forehead. The immense creature turned to look at the cub, eight neon green eyes that glowing in the dark on the sides of its head.
"You've finally awoken, child," the creature began, "Welcome to the Tunnels. If you need to know anything right now, it's this: The darkness shall be your friend, and never stray into the light of the Aboveworld until I say so."
"Who're you?" the cub inquired, "And who am I?"
"We are the Nameless Guardians, and we are here to protect these tunnels."
"But do we have names?"
The eight-eyed silhouette erupted into roaring laughter, turning to curl around the cub. "We are Nameless, we have no names. But if we must have them, I suppose you can call me ?."
"Then. . . you can call me Guardian."
"Really creative there, cub. Real creative," ? remarked, before slowly standing up, holding Guardian's scruff and walking through the pitch black.
After what felt like an eternity of walking, they reached a gently lit cavern. The walls were tinted orange from a central bonfire. Or at least, Guardian assumed it was a bonfire. It looked like a bonfire that didn't crackle, or even move in the slightest. So what was it? Circled around it where several other figures, each one taller and with more elaborate horns and antlers and claws and spines than the next. The shortest of them was tinted a diluted red, six bright blue eyes glowing in the dark, with a single set of black antlers sprouting off it's forehead. The feline next to it had a single, wide red eye in the center of it's forehead, a huge crown of tangled antlers and horns atop its head, a cape of spines down the center of its back. A tired looking feline, its pelt tinted a slight yellow, ten eyes all closed.
