Defined only from scars and war these two shattered themselves and stripped their dignity. for Fifty Millennia they fought and bickered.
You read every bit of that right, Nitsu is a colony based species with two breed categories.
Cave Balsu
Cave Balsu, oh Cave Balsu, where do we start with these brutes? Well, I'd suggest the physical traits first if you not only want to tell them apart just by color.
Cave Balsu are rather muscled, whether from hard work in the mines 45 ft more below the cave they dwell in or it was a genetic pass-me-down. To add to this mass bulk they stand at "10'9 feet at max, runt grow to "6'4. And yes, runts are nearly impossible unless something went wrong. they have power punches, imagine it like a mini freight train zooming in faster then sound when you get smacked by one.
Outer appearance isn't much different from their cousins. Well, somewhat of a lie. Cave Balsu hold a much more darker pigment, these colors range from the darkest of blacks to the muckiest of greens, they also all share the common trait of pale eyes. Whether genetic or it happened over time all Cave Balsu get pale eyes eventually. these colors range from white to a bluish grey. With this aside I can finally mention the wings of a Cave Balsu. these wings are extremely weak and can only handle being used to hold a threatening pose or somewhat-short glides. ONLY THESE TWO, don't say i didn't warn ya if you get a intense concussion.
With appearance aside we can finally examine abilities that separate them from the other Balsu.
Cave Balsu are all capable of using Necromancy, some take up the jobs as a Raze or Summoners, of course Necromancy doesn't come without it's prices but we'll save it for later.
Next up is the ability to hop areas with "Shadow Travel". This takes immense energy when used by the inexperience as they usually warp to ares without much darkness(COUGHRoiCOUGHCOUGH).
And last but not least "Undead Healing". It is a insanely painful, most exhausting strategy. And should never be used unless necessary. If used in combat it could risk death from your foe ending you while sleeping or being to drowsy to fight properly. This move cannot be used to heal others but themselves, it is impossible to do so.
Plain Balsu
The marvelous, optimistic Plain Balsu. They are they true ballets of the sky and are often mistaken for vibrant swans sent from the triple rainbows across the sky.
Compared to Cave Balsu, our lovely Balsu here are rather dainty and quick-footed. Light with a hearty standing for tropical temperatures they stand around at "5'3. runts not much smaller, only "4'8. They are more magic based, using blinding spells or any nature based spell(yesevenfirebecausefireisalsoexistantfromnature). Useful in range attacks they can also do melee, think of them as quick moving. Like a squirrel they'll be hitting you in any common weak spot they know of for their species, they'll even do it on other creatures.
Outer appearance is much more gentle then those musky Cave Balsu. They resort to vibrant shades, from beautiful midnight blues to sun-glazed white. Unlike their cousin all of these Balsu share the common trait of bright eyes. It is all genetic with no spite for different colored eyes, these gazes range from Glossy yellow to Snow white. And their beautiful, feathered wings. They always carry multi-colored feathers and they can fly for miles to come unlike those intolerable gliders who only wish they could fly like these beauties!
With our looks aside we can focus on common abilities, one involving the ability to shift-shape. That's right, these diligent critters often like taking form of birds or foxes. Sometimes they'll mock the forms of others for giggles, though thy can never change their color.
Next up is the gift of telepathy. Like shift-shaping all Plain Balsu have the ability to use this naturally. Often good jobs for this are Strategist. Capable of sharing war plans or schemes without being heard.
And lastly, Healing. it can be used on others but not themselves, this ability must be taught and it takes a while to completely understand and use. Knowing this opens up opportunities as Medics.
Defects
Cave: Cursed One(Rare)- A bloodline lineage from ancient war were spirits manifest a part of a family's offspring such as eyes, paws, etc. The only known cure is the removal of said manifested part which is usually defined by a more outstanding color compared to the infected. The results are quite unpleasant as they hosted lacks control of the manifested area.(Example: Roi's right eye is red instead of pale blue. It opens and closes on it's own and looks around opposite to Roi's direction)
Cave: Dwarfism(Uncommon)- Being born with dwarfism is usually being a handicap in the Cave Balsu system. As being a dwarf makes you much smaller, weaker, and all together "useless". Dwarfs usually end up being executed with families punished, usually with the male's mate being slaughtered and paired with a more healthy mate. Very few handicaps live just by bribing, some even work overtime in the mines just too stay alive.
Cave: Unnamed(Insanely Rare)- This is a recently happening birth defect were offspring are born without wings or eyes. Though studies are still unsure it is believed to be a breakthrough with evolution in an attempt to develop living in darkness. Though sadly, all offspring born like this are still born as recorded so far.
Cave: Feathers(Rare)- Though this is unknown as too why Cave Balsu are sometimes born with feathers on their wings they are recorded to have better glide distance, still can't fly, sadly.
Cave: Little Wing(Uncommon)- Usually seen with those baring dwarfism even those without dwarfism can get it. Too be honest it's even more hysterical on those who aren't runts or dwarfs.
Plain: War's Curse(Rare)- Like a remix of defect "Cursed One" offspring are born without the abilities, their chances of getting killed are increased from a strange aura that is produced, it's like a immense lure for predators. Parents have a hard time defending them while their still cubs.
Plain: Albinism(Very Rare)- Though not a serious case it is interesting and somewhat pretty too see albino Plain Balsu. Can't help but wonder if Cave Balsu can be albino.
Plain: Dwarfism(Rare)- often see as adorable, compared to the treatment dwarfs get in the undergrounds this is a much better life as dwarfs get a better chance with equal rights like any other.
Plain: Unnamed(Insanely Rare)- Similar to the unnamed case with Cave Balsu, these Balsu often get still born the color black or green. In closer study their insides are more stiff them normal organs, like rocks. It's believed to be caused by a certain diet.
Plain: Scaly Spawn(Common)- The not much of a worry, as they can still fly and kept the vibrant colors. They have scales smooth like snakes with little rough bumps in each third scale plate going down their back. Medics say there is no downfall or need too worry as it might just be adaption.
Plain: Foul Bat(Rare)- The case with this one is when some suggest a Plain Balsu and Trader Cave have offspring together. With the feathery wings of a Plain Balsu and the dark colors of a Cave Balsu. Albinism is usually common in this process, there are some cases were the offspring are born with no eyes.
Both: Conjoined(Rare)- Both breeds can get this, and very little have survived because of the ways they were conjoined, some were fully conjoined up until the heads. Others either conjoined in different ways. This birth defect usually sends any parent in a fit of worry if their offspring will survive.
Both: Cyclopia(Very Rare)- A case where offspring are born with one eye, this eye is dead center taking up where the nose is. You'd think this is cool until you realize it's a real birth defect and those born with it only last a day or less.
Both: Sirenomelia(Very rare)- Another real world birth defect.. Sirenomelia, which is also known as mermaid syndrome, is an extremely rare congenital developmental disorder characterized by anomalies of the lower spine and the lower limbs. Affected infants are born with partial or complete fusion of the legs. Additional malformations may also occur including genitourinary abnormalities, gastrointestinal abnormalities, anomalies of the lumbarsacral spine and pelvis and absence or underdevelopment (agenesis) of one or both kidneys. Affected infants may have one foot, no feet or both feet, which may be rotated externally. The tailbone is usually absent and the sacrum is partially or completely absent as well. Additional conditions may occur with sirenomelia including imperforate anus, spina bifida, and heart (cardiac) malformations. Sirenomelia is often fatal during the newborn period. The exact cause of sirenomelia is unknown, most cases occur randomly for no apparent reason (sporadically).(from this lovely site: rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/sirenomelia/ )
Both: Hairless(Uncommon)- it's not painfully surprising or lethal, think of it like a Sphinx or something. Except they have wings and what not. hey at least you can see the muscle difference between Plain and Cave.
Both: Horns(Rare)- These horns usually sprout out as ivory or similar material that makes bone, usually they are covered in a velvet coarse which is usually the color of coffee or buttermilk.Without this velvet cover the horns are white.
