It is rather cold outside, isn't it? Oh, no need to be alarmed. You are welcome to shelter in my home. Ah, pardon, where are my manners... Allow me to step out of the shadows for you.
Ah, there we are. My kind does not stray in to the light too often, you see. Very sensitive eyes.
What am I? Oh, I am an Alysian. A Cave Alysian, to be precise. There used to be such things as Plains and Mountain and Ocean Alysians, but I'm afraid those are long gone. We cave-dwellers are all that's left, and even our numbers have begun to wear thin.
Hm? Oh, you needn't worry about it, light-dweller. We are not terribly social beings anyways. Speaking of which, I never told you my name. How terribly rude of me. We Alysians do not name our young in the traditional sense. Often, we do not speak a common tongue, and instead communicate via taps and clicks. However, I have met many a traveler, and they have gifted me with the name 'Pitch'. I suspect this refers to my rather dark coloration.
You have a rather nice name yourself, light-dweller. I am pleased to meet you.
My gender? Hmm, we do not reproduce as your kind does. We can act as each gender depending on the situation. However, my voice is decidedly tenor, so I would fall in the Male category in that sense.
Age? Oh, young one. We are timeless beings that are functionally immortal. Time means nothing to us. I am ancient; as I remember when the world was young and new, with creatures of many shapes and sizes. I cannot specify my true age for you. My apologies.
Your heartbeat has slowed; have you settled in? Don't look so surprised! My time in the silence of the caverns has sharpened my senses. In addition, my second set of eyes- see? These can sense heat. I cannot 'see' with them. Hah, don't worry. Our kind does not hunt. This is a defense mechanism if anything.
You look concerned. Are you bothered by my thin torso? We haven't many organs; and the ones we do have are in the chest area. A stomach? We do certainly have those. But our bodies digest and absorb all of our food; therefore we do not produce waste.
I do have a great many books about, don't I? Sorry about the mess. I do not get visitors often. I spend my time studying and reading, and occasionally I foray out into the open. Always at night, of course. My eyes cannot handle sunlight at all.
The blizzard doesn't seem to be letting up. Allow me to get you something to rest on... There. Ahaha, just because we are not hunters by nature does not mean we cannot hunt. This bear really was not kind, regardless. It is soft, though, isn't it? Well, get some rest. I shall wake you either when morning comes. Sleep well, light-dweller.
